Job Duties

These are the job duties required of the position.

Description of Job Duty

Assists with loan processes at the circulation service desk.

Monitors procedures regarding effective circulation of materials and shelving of circulating books, this requires monitoring of a varied workflow.

Responsible for the judgment call situations requiring override of the Magellan system.

Trains student assistants in departmental procedures and classification systems used in library.

Schedules student assistants work hours after carefully considering their class agenda.

Enter and update student assistant data in the ARGUS Management System. This system keeps and accurate amount of the hours worked, payroll information, e-mail communications, and other student information that is vital to the department.

Instructs and prepares daily work assignments for the student assistants.

Collects fine and fee payments.

Receipts payments received through Magellan system and through the cash register for University revenue accounting purposes.

Clears encumbrance from the Student Information System.

Supplies immediate follow-up in response to building alarm systems including fire, elevator malfunction, emergency exit, and book theft detection alarm.

Provide assistance to individuals requiring disabled access into and from building.

Answer departmental telephone and sees that patron requests are satisfied.

Registers new library patrons and performs updates in the patron database, including borrowers from reciprocal institutions, community borrowers, and special borrower groups.

Provides maintenance for photocopy machines and Magellan printers.

Distributes incoming mail.

Orders and inventories departmental supplies.

Assists with encumbrance procedures and search stacks for lost/ past due books when needed.

Request and route books from Kingsport University Center and Sherrod Library for faculty members and students.

Performs duties of other circulation staff members in their absence of whenever departmental work flow demands.
