Job Summary

The Assistant Athletic Equipment Manager will report directly to the Head Athletic Equipment Manager. The Assistant will manage select teams as designated by the Head Equipment Manager and also maintain daily operations within the equipment room; and performing other related duties as assigned. The Assistant will work directly with administrators, coaches, and student athletes on a daily basis to help fulfill needs requested. The Assistant Athletic Equipment Manager is responsible for overseeing all equipment operations including, laundry, inventory, and event set up. Consults coaches on value of proper maintenance of athletic gear, best manufactured selection and quality of material. Assists in negotiating with suppliers and maintaining good working relationships Assists in the upkeep of uniforms and equipment to control expenses yet meet program needs. Utilizes knowledge of what it takes to get uniforms clean: time, temperature, mechanical actions, chemical actions and procedures. Distributes and outfits all student athletes in athletics equipment for their specific sports, as well as, receives inventory equipment when returned. Prepare sites for practice and game participation and travel as designated. Helps Schedule equipment room hours, game management and oversees student workers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of a good work ethic. Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 100 lbs) and perform other physical tasks as needed. Ability to effectively communicate with administrators, coaches, student athletes and staff. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, coaches, student athletes and staff. Ability to have strong attention to detail. Knowledge of equipment and uniforms as well as how to properly care for and clean uniforms and maintain equipment. Ability to recognize different functions of equipment as used in different sports. Assists in choosing the best equipment for the best price. Ability to maintain a professional an neat appearance.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. At least two years experience working in a Division 1 athletic program. Certification by the Athletic Equipment Manager Association or working towards certification preferred.

Job Duties

These are the job duties required of the position.

Description of Job Duty

Assists in the daily operations/functions of the athletic equipment room.

Assists in the purchase, distributing, storage, securing and accountability of all athletic equipment.

Assists in laundering of uniforms, practice gear, towels and other materials used on a daily basis.

Assists in locker room set up and breakdown for home/visiting teams.

Assists in team practices and games with assigned teams.

Travels with teams assigned to by Head Athletics Equipment Manager.

Assists in packing equipment for team travel

Assists in event management for certain sporting events.

Sports included but not limited to men’s basketball; women’s soccer; softball; men’s soccer; men’s and women’s tennis; men’s and women’s track and cross country.
