Job Summary

This position is contingent upon grant funding. Provides clerical support at the Hancock County School Based Health Center in Sneedville, TN including patient check-in and check-out procedures; handling of confidential medical records; bookkeeping and other financial transactions; handling money; maintaining filing system; answering phone calls which includes scheduling appointments, routing phone calls to appropriate staff, providing clinical information and assisting with other clinical requests; data input and calculations; assisting clinic director and other professional staff with correspondence and record-keeping.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of business English, punctuation and spelling. Ability to make mathematical computations. Ability to use computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases in windows environment. Ability to use standard office equipment. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to work with diverse employees and patients. Ability to communicate effectively.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; one year experience working in an office setting; working knowledge of computer software programs.

Job Duties

These are the job duties required of the position.

Description of Job Duty

Answers incoming telephone calls, provides information, takes messages, and, refers calls to appropriate staff member.

Schedules patient appointments.

Compiles patient charts and assembles necessary forms for clinic encounters.

Files reports and other correspondence on patient charts.

Performs data entry into practice management system.

Welcomes patients, obtains patient demographic and health history information forms for new patients, and assists patients in completing forms as needed.

Obtains patients insurance information, eligibility, and benefits.

Fulfills request for medical records or other necessary information.

Files medical records.

Obtains and distributes incoming faxes.
