Job Summary

This position is responsible to the Office of Financial Aid Processing Coordinator for the execution of all day-to-day required procedures of Federal Financial Aid; the data entry required to process various federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid funds. Processing exception reports as appropriate. Assisting with the daily supervision of student workers and graduate students; and performing other related duties as assigned. Serving as a team mate and co-worker to other members of the processing staff.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree and 1 year of full-time work experience required.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty
  • Reviews student FAFSA applications for financial aid to determine financial need and award aid.
  • Reviews all student FAFSA applications selected for verification; recalculates taxes paid, AGI, and additional verification elements as needed.
  • Reviews all documents submitted to ensure accuracy, including but not limited to, acceptable documentation, appropriately signed, and documents completed.
  • Prepares and sends communications to students notifying/requesting additional information/documentation in order to complete verification process.
  • Updates Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) with all necessary corrections to reflect an accurate application to be sent to Central Processing System (CPS) for processing.
  • Processes Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) C-codes including, but not limited to, selective service issues, Social Security number verification, and citizenship/immigration status.
  • Adjusts data elements on student FAFSA applications and recalculates eligibility based upon professional judgement decisions exercised by Financial Aid Counselors.
  • Works in conjunction with the Office of Admissions and other offices on student recruitment as it relates to the financial aid process.
  • Approximately eleven months of the year is spent working with two award years with different rules and policies, and multiple semesters within the award year.
  • Participates in the administration of all Federal, Institutional, and State Aid programs at the University.
  • Remains current in the knowledge of and provides accurate information to students and staff related to Federal Pell Grant, Tennessee grants and scholarships, Federal Work-Study, scholarships, FSEOG, student loans and Federal, State, and University rules and regulations related to financial aid.

Description of Job Duty
  • Works with Director and Assistant Director to implement necessary changes from year to year, as well as improvements to the verification process.
  • Serves as back-up for primary functions of the other Financial Aid Assistant aiding in the verification process.
  • Provides ideas and suggestions for the on-going development and implementation of Financial Aid Operating Procedures, forms, and other related documents.
  • Supports development of content for the Office of Financial Aid website and provides internal customer service to financial aid staff with continued review of all updates and changes to the website.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication plan, and newsletters for the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
