Job Summary

The position performs work in supervising a group of custodians in cleaning activities and performing related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and methods of supervision Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures Knowledge of applicable Material Safety Data Sheets Knowledge of the care and maintenance of equipment used in custodial work Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions Ability to plan and direct the work of others Ability to follow instructions Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely Ability to train new personnel and coordinate the efforts of a work crew Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees

High school diploma or GED; progressively responsible experience in custodial work

Job Duties

These are the job duties required of the position.

Description of Job Duty

Supervises custodians in the performance of daily activities including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, striping floors, waxing, removal of trash, etc.
Inspects work of custodians for accuracy and completeness.
Delivers cleaning products to appropriate buildings, directs the use of the cleaning products and cleaning equipment.
Establishes work schedules, assigns duties, and conducts training programs for personnel.
Coordinates cleaning needs with College of Medicine departments.
Performs custodial employee performance evaluations.

Meets with Associate Director of Facilities as necessary to plan custodial projects and requirements.
Develops building check list of the required cleaning tasks.
Schedules staff as necessary to assure that all buildings are maintained in a well-kept condition during times of staff absences or sickness.
Develops and maintains a schedule for ordering of custodial supplies and cleaning equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
