Job Summary

Work performed in preparing detailed drawings according to accepted drafting procedures and performing related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of properties of building materials and construction techniques. Knowledge of furniture, finishes, materials and specifications, and vendor relations. Knowledge of drafting methods, materials, and instruments. Knowledge of Archibus Software Program and space inventory database. Ability to use AutoCAD efficiently to complete a variety of technical sketches and drawings. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications and diagrams, etc. Ability to use graphic and visualization skills to communicate design ideas. Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately and with reasonable speed. Ability to remain organized. Ability to work independently, as well as within a team setting. Ability to use standard office software, including Microsoft Office.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by courses in mechanical drawing or drafting with a minimum of three years recent experience in engineering drafting; OR completion of appropriate two year program beyond high school with a minimum of two years of recent experience in engineering drafting.

Job Duties

These are the job duties required of the position.

Description of Job Duty

Prepares completed construction drawings for approved in-house renovations projects which may include floor plans, site plans, electrical, mechanical and architectural details, multimedia classroom renovations, etc., using AutoCAD to prepare plans.

Orders signage campus-wide working directly with the Director of Marketing on standard signage layouts; communicates with departments to gather information on their signage needs; and issues and discusses work orders with the outside signage contractor to process orders.

Prepares campus maps showing locations of projects such as ETSU facilities, utilities, conduit layouts, boundary and property lines, etc.

Prepares construction details of cabinets, shelves, etc., to be built by physical plant or by an outside vendor.

Designs and prepares building directional signage for campus buildings.

Makes field observations and takes measurements for preparing working drawings on campus using mechanical drafting equipment.

Assists management with various design projects, including selection of finishes, furniture, function of space, color, floor coverings and lighting.

Reconfigures office space using existing and new furniture.

Updates, records, revises and maintains site maps and plans of buildings within the institution as permanent records of new construction and alterations.

Maintains facilities’ plans and records documents utilizing the PFI (Physical Facilities Inventory).

Coordinates delivery and installation during project design and construction.

Assists the Director of Student Housing with R&R Plan for furniture replacement.

Creates accurate and detailed cost estimates for renovation of existing facilities. Facilitates space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, and color coordination with outside furnishing contractor.

Provides copies of existing buildings and utilities plans to faculty, students, staff, outside contractors, and engineering consultants.

Scans and reproduces drawings, blueprints, etc.

Assists with the development of ETSU Design Standards.

Creates work requests for signage on TMA.

Manages and provides basic maintenance to plotter including paper loading, ink replacement, etc.

Maintains facilities’ file room with new and existing architectural documents, manuals, etc.

Updates, records, revises and maintains site maps and plans of buildings within the institution as permanent records of new construction and alteration.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
