Job Summary
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of local tree and plant species, arboriculture practices in streets and park settings.

Knowledge of insects and diseases that infect tree and plants on ETSU campuses.

Knowledge of tree maintenance methods and equipment.

Knowledge of safety practices related to tree maintenance.

Ability to communicate effectively with staff, public, and private groups.

Ability to supervise subordinate staff as assigned.

Ability to detect insect and plant diseases and prescribe corrective action to eradicate problems.

Ability to safely climb trees and use pruning equipment properly.

Ability to operate assigned vehicles.

Ability to demonstrate computer skills associated with Urban Forestry management and reporting.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma with a minimum of 5 years of experience required; certified Aborist required; license/certification in Pesticide category II or other to apply pesticides on trees, shrub and related plant material, ability to apply pesticides as required.

Job Duties

These are the job duties required of the position.

Description of Job Duty

Communicates effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Operates computers with specialized software related to urban forestry management including spread sheets and operational data recording.

Ability to climb trees and operate tree maintenance equipment in a safe manner.

Application of pesticides required to manage disease and other pests.

Understand contracting; principals for arboriculture services and all other aspects of modern Urban Forestry Management program.

Manage Urban Forestry program on campus including arboretum.

Respond to campus emergencies and inclement weather.

Plan and manage a 5 year tree planting and management program that is to be integrated into the overall 5 year campus landscape plan.
