Job Summary

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in a variety of skilled tasks as they relate to building maintenance, construction, and erecting of forms and the cutting and assembling of materials and performing related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to perceive small differences in objects and spacial relationships.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED with 5 years experience in finish carpentry, and/or completion of carpenter apprenticeship program, or vocational school required.

Job Duties

These are the job duties required of the position.

Description of Job Duty
  • Maintains and renovates all spaces on the main campus as well as off campus sites.
  • Builds rough wooden structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, and other supports.
  • Install doors, windows, and screens in designated positions in building framework.
  • Completes various types of trim work, roofing, flooring, ceiling, wall repairs, and other building repairs.
  • Reads and interprets work orders and blueprints to determine dimensions of structures.
  • Determines and creates sketches to show exact dimensions.
  • Estimates and orders materials to complete jobs.
  • Lays out dimensions on materials.
  • Cuts and fits materials together.
  • Prepares surface for staining and/or painting.
  • Uses special hand and machine tools common to the cabinetmaking trade, woodworking shop tools, and common hand tools.
  • Operates university owned vehicles.
