Job Summary
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of ExLibris Alma automated library system.
  • Knowledge of good supervisory techniques.
  • Knowledge of security methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers, including the ability to scan and post to web based server.
  • Knowledge of copy machines and printers with the ability to trouble shoot and perform basic maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to use standard Windows applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet, able to learn new applications as needed.
  • Ability to promote teamwork among staff.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in enforcing library policies and procedures, including fines and other penalties.
  • Ability to work well with library patrons including faculty, staff, students, and general public.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with library and campus faculty/staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree and one year relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of the Bachelors degree.

Job Duties

These are the job duties required of the position.

Description of Job Duty
  • Attends training sessions relevant to position
  • Assists with reserve collection including preparation and removal of items.
  • Assists with loan processes at the circulation service desk. Monitors procedures regarding effective circulation of materials. Position requires monitoring of a varied workflow. Handles judgment call situations requiring override in the ExLibris Alma library system software.
  • Collects fines, post fee payments and handles refunds as needed. Counts the money and secures the cash register at closing time as needed.
  • Handles follow-up procedures pertaining to LOST/MISSING books.
  • Clears encumbrances from Banner.
  • Assists with circulation of open stacks, reserve, and CD collections
  • Assists with follow-up in response to building alarms.
  • Assists with departmental telephone and sees that patron requests are satisfied.
  • Registers new library patrons and does updates in the patron database including borrowers from Reciprocal institutions and special borrower groups.
  • Provides minor maintenance on photocopy machines and printers.
  • Requests and routes books between libraries for students and faculty.
  • Interprets and clarifies library policies and penalties when appropriate with library users.
  • Issues Library Associate and On-Line User cards to qualified applicants from the general public. Issues TBR cards to ETSU students/faculty/staff and creates records for TBR card holders from other state schools. Issues reciprocal cards to students from area private colleges.
  • Assists with on-going projects as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
