Job Summary

Responsible to the Clinic Director for the management/oversight of the nursing staff, patient care specialists and clinical area; serving as a vital team member within the Patient Centered Medical Home; developing clinical policies and procedures in cooperation with the Clinic Director; providing patient care; supervising clinical staff; evaluating patient flow and making recommendations; maintaining equipment and medical supplies; serving as coordinator for OSHA, Vaccines for Children, and other state/federal programs as needed; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of state institution procedure.

Knowledge of the current health sciences and nursing procedures as practiced in generalist medical office setting.

Knowledge of health care insurance including private insurance, Medicare and Tenncare.

Knowledge of organizational management and administration.

Knowledge of various state, federal, and agency regulations.

Knowledge of various patient referral/educational resources.

Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Ability to fulfill all the expectations of the RN Scope of Practice.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required. Five years of current RN experience; at least three years of supervisory experience; and one year of experience in a medical office setting. Must possess current Tennessee license as a Registered Nurse.

Job Duties

These are the job duties required of the position.

Description of Job Duty

Supervises clinical staff designated by Center; maintains clinical staff scheduling, completes performance evaluations; provides counseling/mentoring/training; provides discipline for employees per policy; manages nurse and lab scheduling; approves leave requests; addresses staff issues; advocates for clinical staff; updates job descriptions; approves/signs timecards; and performs other related administrative personnel functions as required.

Supervises Lab and lab technician. Serves as liaison between Center and the contracted lab company regarding issues, concerns, etc.

Ensures that job descriptions are current; serves as chairperson of search committees for clinical staff; makes recommendations for hiring; interviews/recommends temporary staff to ensure adequate coverage for clinical area.

Maintains the clinical area, including ordering medical supplies and medications; reconciling order with invoices; sending invoices through system for processing; ensuring that rooms, emergency cart, and procedure rooms are adequately stocked; properly disposes of expired medications; ensures that medical equipment is maintained appropriately; works with Center Manager with facility planning and design.

Coordinates center-wide work flow/patient flow in conjunction with appropriate Center administrative staff.

Provides education, coaching and continuing oversight of HIPAA compliance as it relates to the clinical area and staff.

Serves as OSHA Coordinator including providing training; maintaining injury log and documentation; and ensuring compliance according to OSHA specification and regulations. Provides education for patients, staff, residents, and medical students related to the clinical area. Acts as the liaison between patients and physicians, outside healthcare agencies and between clinical staff and office staff and physicians.

Collaborates with the Practitioners from other colleges to integrate care in the Patient Centered Medical Home.

Coordinates referral process for patients with specialty care within and outside the health center.

Provides nursing care and assists with practitioners as required.

Identifies problems associated with clinical practice, recommends solutions, and implements changes as needed in collaboration with appropriate Center administrative staff.

Provides in-service education for clinical staff.

Maintains current training as HER Super-User; provides training and assistance for administrators, faculty, staff, residents, medical students, etc.; attends training and meetings as required to maintain knowledge of system.

Manages and coordinates the Tennessee Vaccines for Children Program (VFC) for the Center; submits reports; maintains inventory; updates enrollment; meets with auditor; maintains current knowledge of guidelines; ensures compliance; oversees appropriate storage of vaccines; provides information to patients; orders vaccines; submits monthly inventory for the VFC Program, etc.

Coordinates instruction of nursing and/or patient care specialist students to the Center.

Develops and updates nursing policies and procedures.

Oversees and reviews daily HER Task List assigned to clinical staff to ensure that tasks are addresses in a timely manner.

Collaborates with Clinic Director and Clinical/Residency Coordinator to oversee and coordinate clinic/faculty precepting/procedure schedules; recommends solutions and makes adjustments as required.
