Job Summary

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology, in partnership with the Applied Social Research Lab (ASRL) and ETSU’s Office of Institutional Research are advertising for a research professor who will have a joint appointment in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the newly formed Center of Excellence in Applied Social Research (CEASR). CEASR is an academic survey and research center that will fulfill all manner of Institutional Research needs for strategic planning, support faculty research across campus, and will design and execute a wide array of applied social research including surveys, focus groups, evaluation studies, and consultation for community and regional organizations through contract work. The position is non-tenure track, but conversion to tenure track status is an option if the candidate and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology both choose it within three years after the hire date. The successful candidate will be actively involved in the Sociology program and will be expected to offer both undergraduate and graduate-level courses particularly in the area of statistics, data analysis, and research methods. The successful candidate will also direct thesis and applied sociology projects. Research and scholarly publications and other professional activities are expected.

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in sociology or closely related social science discipline. The successful applicant for this position will have training and experience in survey research methods. Previous experience working in a private or academic survey research center is preferred. Additional substantive specialization areas are desirable and preference will be given to those whose research agenda aligns with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and CEASR. The anticipated teaching load for this position is two courses per semester, although it may vary in the first three years depending on the needs of the center (a regular load is 3-3). The successful applicant will also be expected to significantly participate in the development and growth of CEASR.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Sociology, or closely related discipline. The successful applicant for this position is required to have training and experience in survey research methods. Experience with data analysis and the ability to teach graduate level statistics and data analysis classes are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working in private or academic survey research center.

Salary $65,000 ($50,000 12 month salary plus $15,000 at risk guaranteed only in years one and two; after year two at-risk salary is contingent on contracts awarded to CEASR)
