Job Summary

East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Department of Pediatrics and Medical Education Assistance Corporation (MEAC), in conjunction with the Niswonger Children’s Hospital seeks a qualified Pediatric Hospitalist to join a dynamic team of 5 full time hospitalists who are active in our residency and medical school teaching program, quality improvement projects and education and research. The candidate must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatrics at time of hire. Experience should include demonstrated skill in inpatient pediatrics, and medical education, and experience in quality improvement is a plus. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will be an ETSU employee and receive benefits through ETSU. The position will be an ETSU non-tenure, clinical track faculty appointment (contingent on MEAC funding). Responsibilities include providing services at Niswonger Children’s Hospital, the primary inpatient site for medical student and resident pediatric education for the ETSU Quillen College of Medicine. Niswonger Children’s Hospital provides medical care to pediatric patients from a large geographic area including Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Southern West Virginia, Eastern Kentucky and Western North Carolina areas as well as teaching of medical students and pediatric residents, and other academic pursuits. The Niswonger Children’s Hospital has approximately 2700 admissions and is part of a 13 hospital system with over 44,577 pediatric visits each year.

Our region is located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains and offers excellent schools, a low cost of living, and a wealth of outdoor activities. The beautiful Smokey Mountain National Park is in close proximity. Two major interstate highways, I-26 and I-81, serve the area. Air travel is supported by 3 airports less than 90 minutes from the hospital.
