Job Summary

This position is responsible to the Scientific Graphics Production Specialist for performing a variety of technical services specific to print production operations for the Department of Biomedical Communications. This position is part-time as needed Monday through Friday, with hours to vary between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. depending upon workload. Occasional nights and weekend work may be required.
Assists in the production of multiple, diverse projects in various media, honoring deadlines:
- must have documented knowledge base to operate high-end production equipment such as digital press, wide-format printer, folding equipment, cutter, binder, and other equipment to execute various phases of production within time and budget constraints;
- must have knowledge of digital workflow as it pertains to production;
- learn the operation of the Ricoh 901 digital press;
- knowledge of variable data and mailings is preferred;
- Inspect printed items for print quality standards within institution and customer guidelines. (Including but not to limited color, registration (general) and front to back registration, verifies print counts against Production Orders.
Manage support functions related to project production:
-maintain safe working conditions, practices, and good housekeeping in area; monitor equipment to insure appropriate procedures are followed, performing safety inspections as needed;
-assist Scientific Graphic Production Specialist with periodic reviews of methods, processes and implement adjustments when necessary;
- remain current with the operation, assist with management and maintenance of equipment when necessary, computer software, hardware and peripherals; work with service technicians when necessary to keep equipment efficient and operational;
- assist with inventory of paper, poster stock, bindery supplies, toner and other consumables;
- manage digital files and archives;
- maintain positive relationships with established vendors and clients;
- Must present a positive attitude and show a high-level of teamwork;
Assist designers by preparing final proofs prior to production.
Able to use own vehicle for on-campus deliveries.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Extensive knowledge of digital print shop operations and color management systems with documented experience.
• Training and/or practical experience in production finishing including: types of binding and bindery equipment to execute saddle stitch, perfect, case, spiral and comb; create, set up and finish multiple-up projects with bleed using a guillotine; finishing methods for folding such as bi-, tri-, gate and accordion.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Ability to communicate, understand and follow instructions with minimal supervision.
• Basic computer skills required.

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to pass a color test is required

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of prepress is helpful.

Salary Pay contingent upon experience.
