Job Summary

EAST TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY, DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND DANCE, invites applications for a tenure track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR of Scenic Design to begin fall 2018.
The successful candidate will teach classes in scenic design and related areas, design scenery as part of the Department’s 4 to 5 show main stage season, and supervise Properties (design, acquisition, and building) and Scenic Art for the Department’s shows; mentor student designers; participate in academic advising; conduct on-going external research/creative activity; serve on Department and University Committees; and perform other service to the Department as required.
The growing department has 70 majors, offers a BA in Theatre, and is NAST accredited. Concentrations in Design and Technology, Musical Theatre, Physical Theatre, and Acting and Directing, are being proposed for implementation in fall 2019. A new arts facility with a 200 seat flexible theatre and 1200 seat proscenium stage are under construction with an opening date of spring 2020.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A strong scenic design portfolio and proficiency in Auto CAD and/or Vectorworks required. Excellent organizational, communication and collaborative skills are essential.

Required Qualifications

MFA or PhD in Theatre with three or more years of undergraduate theatrical design teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Secondary expertise in another area of theatrical design such as sound, projection, costume, lighting, or rigging, and experience in musical theatre and/or physical theatre is highly desirable.

Salary $55,000
