Job Summary

The Department of Music at East Tennessee State University seeks to fill a tenure-track, assistant professor position to begin August 2018. The successful candidate will teach applied cello lessons, coach small chamber ensembles, teach string pedagogy and string literature courses, and preferably teach theory and/or aural skills. He/she will build a low strings studio, recruit and retain string students.

The successful candidate will contribute to the cultural life of the campus, and the East Tennessee area. He/she will be expected to collaborate with the music faculty and the area music teachers.

The successful candidate will also provide service to the department, university and profession. He/she will be an active participant in regional and national professional organizations; advise students and supervise student trips to competitions, conferences, and outreach performances; host guest artists and collaborate with them; and contribute his/her expertise to the pre-college program.

Besides his/her artistic commitment, the successful candidate must have demonstrated ability to work with advanced cello students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate must demonstrate professional skills in playing cello, strong teaching and recruiting skills, and have knowledge of string literature and current pedagogical trends. He/she must have the aptitude to collaborate with music faculty and guest artists and connect with area teachers to build positive relations within the community.

Required Qualifications

The candidate will have a DMA in Cello Performance or equivalent. Master’s Degree and ABD status will be considered. Distinction in artistic accomplishment in orchestral, collaborative, and solo performance is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one year of collegiate teaching is preferred.

Salary Commensurate to candidate's experience.
