Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry at East Tennessee State University seeks an outstanding scholar and administrator for the position of Chair to begin July 2018. The Department is known for its strong teaching record and rapidly growing research effort, with 10 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 7 lecturers and adjunct faculty, and 3 staff members. We offer undergraduate and master’s degree programs with ACS-approved Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Chemical Physics concentrations. Please also see http://www.etsu.edu/cas/chemistry/.

The chair is expected to foster and promote scholarly productivity and visibility of a diverse and active faculty while supporting innovative and high quality teaching. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry and a proven record of scholarship and teaching appropriate for a tenured position at the full professor level. They should have demonstrated leadership ability, effective communication skills, and a record of successful grantsmanship.

East Tennessee State University has an enrollment of approximately 14,000 students. We are a Carnegie Foundation doctoral research university, with associated Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine. ETSU is located in Johnson City, a city of 57,000 in Northeast Tennessee between the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The area offers many opportunities for outdoor recreation and enjoys a moderate climate with four distinct seasons.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry and a proven record of scholarship and teaching appropriate for a tenured position at the associate or full professor level. They should have demonstrated leadership ability and effective communication skills, and a record of successful grantsmanship.
