Job Summary

The successful candidate will teach tuba and euphonium students, and will be expected to recruit and maintain a full studio, as well as expanding relationships with area music professionals (e.g., band directors, orchestral directors, low brass teachers). Other teaching responsibilities may include brass literature, brass pedagogy, secondary low brass (for music education majors), and others depending on departmental needs and candidate strengths. Membership in the faculty brass quintet and regular recital performance are also expected.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate must demonstrate professional skills in playing tuba/euphonium, strong teaching and recruiting skills, and have knowledge of low brass literature and current pedagogical trends. He/she must have the aptitude to collaborate with music faculty and guest artists and connect with area teachers to build positive relations within the community.

Required Qualifications

A doctorate in tuba/euphonium performance (or equivalent) is required. Master’s degree and ABD status will be considered. Distinction in artistic accomplishment in orchestral, jazz/modern, collaborative, and solo performance is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one year of collegiate teaching is preferred. Although not required, the department would like this candidate to teach other classes as needed. Depending on the candidate’s interests and qualifications, these classes may include Theory, Aural Skills, Introduction to Music, History of Jazz, Jazz Pedagogy, and/or Jazz Improvisation. Ability to teach our Pre-College students is also desirable.

Salary Commensurate to candidate's experience.
